A nice little Easter Egg is tucked away in the tutorial level of Looking Glass Studios' Thief.
To find it, set the difficulty to "expert" and complete the first two training segments. Proceed through the third segment (weapons) as instructed and collect the key from the table near the sparring dummy. (Contrary to some descriptions of this Egg, you can take the other items as well.)
However, rather than exiting the area as you're told, follow the guard with whom you sparred back down the hallway. (Hurry, as an iron gate will eventually block this passage.) The guard will stop in the first room. Continue down the darkened hallway to the right-if the hallway's blocked by an ornamental stone barrier, you're not in "expert" mode-and use the key from the table to unlock the door at hall's end.
Beyond, you'll find a basketball court, complete with two hoops and a basketball that could use a little air. You can pick it up and shoot it.
But the real surprise is found in the bedroll in the far right corner of the court. Use it, and you'll find a 15-page document consisting of quotes (some of them quite funny) from members of the Thief development team.
Cute, guys. Can we expect to see Fenway Park, a pitching machine, and a bat on the rec deck in System Shock II?
